ABC turns down pilot TV show set in Charleston By Kyle Stock ( Contact ) The Post and Courier Wednesday, May 30, 2007 Hollywood liked the incentive package, but not the product. A Warner Bros. Television pilot that spent $4 million in Charleston over three months earlier this year was recently turned down by the ABC network, according to South Carolina Film Commissioner Jeff Monks. Charleston caterers, hotels and rental businesses would have cashed in on at least another 10 months of lucrative production work if the network had given the show a thumbs-up. Typically, about a third of a film project's budget is spent on location. Warner Bros. Television declined to answer questions about the project Tuesday. The show, in which a big-city lawyer returns to her small-town Southern roots, most recently was dubbed 'Reinventing the Wheelers' and starred Alyssa Milano, Mary Steenburgen and James Brolin. Previously it had been called 'All Fall Down' and 'Family Juleps.' Monk said it's possible but unlikely that another network could order the show. Milano leaked the news on her blog earlier this month. 'It seems that with the ABC shows ‘Brothers And Sisters,' ‘October Road,' and the Grey's Anatomy spin-off, there was just no room for a new female-driven show on the fall line up,' her site read . 'My only sadness is that you guys won't get to see it.' The project originally was set in Savannah, but producers rewrote the script after the Palmetto State offered incentives two to three times greater than inducements in Georgia.
