The first step in any writing task is to set down your aim. Ask yourself, Why am I writing? and What do I want to achieve? The clearer you are in your own mind about what you want to achieve, the better your letter. Channel 4 KRNV.com: Local News and Weather for Reno-Tahoe Region: Obama campaign sends complaint letter about Nevada caucus conduct
Barack Obama's presidential campaign has sent a letter to the Nevada Democratic Chairwoman Jill Derby complaining of violations of party rules during the state's caucus. Hillary Clinton won the caucuses' popular vote by a margin of 51 percent to Obama's 45 percent. An attorney for the Obama campaign said they received more than 1,600 complaints of early door closings, obstruction of voters, and improper handling of voter preference cards from caucus goers. The attorney says the campaign is not challenging the outcome of the caucuses, but has asked Derby to conduct an investigation into the Clinton campaign tactics during the caucuses. The Clinton campaign has also complained about caucus behavior. On Sunday, a Clinton adviser said he saw Obama supporters at the Mirage casino-hotel caucus site who tried to intimidate Clinton backers.

Letter Format
Avoid pompous, inflated, or overly formal diction. Use short paragraphs that deal with one topic. Above all, be clear and concise. Try to develop what technical writing textbooks call the "you attitude." This means that you should try to use "you" as often as you use "I," and you certainly want to avoid starting each sentence with "I." The "you attitude" means that you try to empathize with the reader: What do they need to know? What do they want? What's in it for them? Even if you are dealing with a dispute, you should remain polite. Before you send a letter, consider how you would react to the letter if you received it. Often, you will want to end you letter with a call to action that explains exactly what you want the reader to do or what you would like to get from the reader. 2 spaces
